Treasure in Fragile Jars of Clay

"We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure."2 Corinthians 4:7

Although life may beat us down and our circumstances may not be great, we have this great hope within our souls and that is the hope of Jesus Christ. Never give up hope. Never give up trying to understand His mercy.  Though we are broken people on the outside, light shines in our hearts so that we ourselves and others can know the glory of God. We are not to be ashamed of suffering because when others see we are suffering they will see this great treasure within our hearts. This treasure is not from this world but it is purely from God. He sent His son, Jesus who endured the ultimate suffering for us and He OVERCAME IT. In light of our suffering we can look to Jesus as an example of selflessness and take the focus off ourselves onto the eternal One. In this way, Christ's glory may shine on us.

"So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever" 2 Corinthians 4:18

These verses in 2 Corinthians 4 made me think about those people who have lost their vision or hearing. It made me think how temporary are the things we rely so heavily on to satisfy our desires. I had a patient yesterday who came in with vision loss in both of his eyes. He said he could see the day before but now he can't see at all. It just hit me all of a sudden that vision is so temporary just as other things like clothes, food, and kids. I know it may sound silly but I rely on vision so much to shop for cute clothes. What if my vision was lost one day?

Our vision must be on Christ who we can trust solely on despite our circumstances whether they are good or bad. Our own vision is fleeting.
